Local resident Ben Heller
found and purchased the first house site for the Trust in November, 2005.
The one acre parcel is at the intersection of Lover’s Lane and the
Millerton Road with views across the marsh.
The Trust has also been given a piece of land on the Cornwall road by
the Town of Sharon, and is working on procuring additional building sites
in the town.
Fundraising Activities
The Trust commenced an ambitious fundraising campaign with a letter to town residents in November, 2005. An anonymous donor gave the Trust a challenge grant of $75,000 to jump start its activities. Each dollar contribution or pledge received before July 1, of this year would be matched by the challenge grant. The Trust raised $75,000 by the July 1 deadline, thus providing it with $150,000 to build or renovate its first house.
